Priceless

It's the little things in life that make each day that much sweeter...
Who said tractors were only for working?....Sophia thinks they're for relaxing!
Isabelle was a busy little Bird this morning. She fell alseep while helping me clean up the kitchen, then proceeded to sleep through a diaper and wardrobe change, and was perfectly content on the ground while I got Sophia ready for nap! This NEVER happens...precious:)
Hudson doing what he loves most....working!
Ok and just for fun....
Mommy: "Sophia, did you go poo poo?"
Isabelle: I'll investigate..."Yes, Sissy poo poo"
Sophia: "Stinky, stinky!"

Memorial Day Memories

Home of the FREE....because of the BRAVE
What a privilege. What a blessing.
I was oh so lucky to spend my weekend chasing and playing with my 3 beautiful, healthy, happy little Birdies!!! I am beyond grateful for that, for being able to spend each and every day enjoying my children and my family, for being able to tuck them into bed each night and to wake up to their sweet smiles and crazy hair each morning, for having my husband by my side to do so, for being surrounded by amazing family and friends who love my children more that I could have ever hoped, for being able to give them a life without worry (at least for now), for being able to enjoy such life without fear, for preserving their innocence because of our freedom. Today marks a remarkably special day. During breakfast this morning and amidst the chaos of our household, I explained the meaning of today to Hudson. While he can recall that Memorial Day was once called Decoration Day, he is still too little to fully understand the meaning of this day. I am merely grateful for the opportunity to be able to explain it to him....knowing that one day he will understand what it means and praying that we have raised him right to fully appreciate what it means. Each day is precious and we must live life to the fullest...loving every moment, every smile, every laugh, every frown, and every cry....because that is life!
Friday was oh so fun getting to play at Meme and Papa's house and then there was some Friday night fun for little man with his YaYa and GoGo! The little Birds had a blast on Saturday out at the lake with their favorite Auntie KK and Koury along with some cousins. And thanks to sweet Miss Melissa for having a movie and popcorn night with Hudson so we could have a date night with KK and Koury. Sunday Funday was just that with a wonderful service at church, water fun and dinner with family and friends at YaYa and GoGo's house. Monday, Monday....Daddy worked and we played!!! We said our "goodbyes" to KK as she headed home to Dallas...we are already ready for her next visit. We braved the HEB, went swimming out at Oma and Opa's and I gave little man his first swimming lesson, Hudson even got to do some tractor work with Daddy, and then celebrated the day with YaYa, GoGo, and our wonderful neighbors:)
 Sophia and Hudson
 THE. BEST. BIG. BROTHER. EVER.
Makes me so happy I want to cry! I love this:)
The Bird Girlies:)
 Isabelle is a little unsure...
Ok...I'm having fun now!!! (P.S. this toy is about 25 years old...they sure don't make things like they used to!!!)
Um yes, that would be Sophia enjoying her peach while Isabelle does the pushing!
Our beautiful "Yellow Rose of Texas" from our sweet as can be neighbors....who we were blessed to spend this evening with, who we are tremendously grateful to for his service, for their sacrifices and dedication to our country for our freedom.

Countdown to KK

Auntie KK is coming for a visit this weekend!!! Oh my little Birds are so excited...and so am I...we miss her terribly! Hudson is already planning out his trip to visit her and Koury in Dallas. "Mommy, how far away is Dallas? I can't see Dallas from our house, can I? How come? Can we go to Dallas soon? I miss my Auntie KK! I love my Auntie KK!" Traveling that far with just my little man would be pretty easy...it is traveling that far with him and his sisters that is going to be the challenge. And since it is always me and all 3, I need to pep myself for such a journey. Not to mention the fact that I think Auntie KK will need to psych herself up if I come along with all my little Birds in tow. So for now we are happy she is coming this way. We love our KK bunches and are super excited for a fun-filled weekend with her:)

Let the summer fun begin...

Oh do my little Birds love the outdoors....and water! I just think YaYa and GoGo need a bigger pool:)
Not sure who had more fun! I love that their GoGo is still a kid at heart!!!

Real Food

After coming across some interesting (and disturbing) reading material on food, I realized our eating habits needed overhaul and we made the decision to make some seriously drastic changes. We are moving smoothly along on our journey of transitioning away from processed food and refined sugar. Our family likes to "go big or go home" when it comes to a lot of things and this shift in our way of life has been no different. Instead of slowly cutting things out of the diet and transitioning at turtle pace, we pretty much took the leap and "went big", completely redefining how we eat and  how I cook...which is all the time now since cutting processed food means cutting out many of the conveniences of this modern day world...goodbye goldfish. I know, I know, me cooking from scratch all the time...amusing. All in all, it has not been as difficult as I was anticipating. My little Birds love to eat and, like their mommy, love to snack. Snack time has proved to be the most challenging...preparing something simple and yummy, that travels well in the car or stroller, that is easy enough for toddlers to eat. We're getting creative though....and honestly, since there is no junk in the house, they don't miss it. My worry was that Hudson would have the most difficult time, seeing as how he has my sweet tooth and also knows good and well what he will be missing out on...but again, to my surprise, he's been a champ! Don't worry though, mommy has mastered making freezy pops and ice cream (yes, ice cream without refined sugar) and they are a delicious treat that all the Birds love!!! I explained to family and friends about our new way of eating and several people continue to ask how the "diet" is going. Well, I don't consider it a diet and I don't feel like we are missing out on anything...frankly, quite the opposite. The Real Food Diet Way of Life simply put---no processed foods, no refined sugar, and anything you do purchase for consumption from a grocery store (for example, bread...which we now have to buy from the Farmer's Market until I get a bread maker) cannot have more than 5 ingredients. I have even had to substitute whole wheat pasta in my Grandma's oh so delicious homemade mac & cheese (a staple in our home), and it is still just as yummy. Now if I can just start making whole wheat and corn tortillas I can break out some more of her recipes. Over the last few weeks, we've tried alot of new things and my husband loves having homemade breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  It's definitely been a journey of trial and error...and will continue to be as I attempt to become a better cook:)

Easter Eggstravaganza

The little Birds have mastered the art of hunting eggs....and after a whirlwind weekend of Easter bliss from Meme & Papa's house to Gruene Lake Village to our house and to YaYa & GoGo's house, who wouldn't! We had such a lovely time celebrating this joyous holiday with family and friends, from fun in the sun to church to choo choo rides to sharing in Uncle RaRa's 50th birthday.
And they're out the door and ready to go...
Sophia with her "I'm so proud" look:)

Hudson was on a mission...no time to stop and smile:)
